Acne

Acne is one of the most common skin diseases that exists and unfortunately, it appears to be on the rise It is a skin disease that involves the oil glands at the base of hair follicles which are stimulated by male hormones produced by the adrenal glands of both males and females. Hormonal changes lead to the skin becoming sensitive to a hormone known as DHT. The skin responds by increasing sebum production, decreasing natural skin cell shredding meaning dead skin cells clump together and form a plug in the pilo-sebaceous duct.

The skin bacteria start to digest the plug and produce by-products which cause inflammation. Bacteria is therefore not the cause of acne but it is their response to the changes in the skin which leads to spots. 

There are a variety of causes of acne. It can be an inherited condition or it can be caused by external factors, such as hormones, stress, medications, irritating cosmetic ingredients and many other factors.

Increasingly, we are seeing more and more adults suffer from ‘hormonally mediated’ acne, which often occurs to those in their late twenties and early thirties. This can have a big impact on self-esteem and confidence levels, but here at The Holderness Laser Clinic, we have a real understanding of the skin and the complex issues relating to acne. Pigmentation

Pigmentation is a darkening of the skin caused by increased melanin production. Melanin protects us from the effects of strong sunlight but often due to a variety of different influences such as UV or trauma leads to inflammation at a cellular level which causes the skin to produce more melanin. This results in darker skin spots or areas, such as age, liver and sun spots, after local damage from acne or burns, or pregnancy mask (often seen post pregnancy on the jaw line and other facial areas).

The body attempts to resist over production but with continued exposure and with aging then over exposed skin can lose its ability to restrict over production and lead to long term hyper pigmentation marks. During times of hormonal variation such as being pregnant then the control of pigment production can be diminished and this also can lead to hyper pigmentation. Rosacea

Rosacea is a chronic, inflammatory skin disease which causes redness and swelling in the face. When it is left untreated, it can soon worsen. The skin can become more sensitive, reacting to both internal and external stimuli, leaving some patients with constant inflammation and sensitivity.

Laser Treatment

For clients with visible blood vessels, laser can be used in order to shrink them. This involves using short pulses of light energy, targeting the blood vessels only, therefore, leaving the surrounding area of the skin unharmed. Skin Peels

Our Enerpeel® Mandelic peels are ideal for helping with sensitivity which is often a problem of Rosacea. 

Unfortunately, there is not currently a cure for Rosacea. However, our range of treatments and products can greatly help reduce symptoms of Rosacea and redness, allowing you to see a significant improvement in the skin.
