Hirsutism Treatments
One of the symptoms of Polycystic Ovaries Syndrome (PCOS) is excessive hair growth or hirsutism. Hirsutism affects 5-10% of all women and a much higher percentage of women with PCOS.
Women of European ancestry have higher rates than women of African descent. Asian women have the lowest rate. Hirsutism in women can be extremely distressing. Unfortunately, it's also one of the most common symptoms of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). The excess production of androgens is responsible for the extra hair growth, which can appear in places such as the face, neck, chest, back and toes. Hirsutism can be a painful experience. Women may be frustrated by the amount of time and money they spend removing unwanted hair only to have it continually grow back.
